Threads, Meta Platforms Inc.’s (NASDAQ:META) text-centric social network, is trialing its version of TweetDeck, a feature previously popular among Twitter users for viewing multiple content feeds simultaneously.
In the test phase, Threads users can pin up to 100 feeds to their homepage, allowing easy navigation between posts from followed accounts, algorithm-recommended content, and feeds focused on specific keywords or topics. This new layout is exclusively available for Threads users accessing the platform via the web.
The resemblance to TweetDeck, a beloved tool among Twitter enthusiasts, is striking. Originally developed by external developers and later acquired by Twitter in 2011, TweetDeck’s potential inclusion in subscription offerings was considered by Twitter management multiple times, though it was never monetized.
Following Elon Musk’s acquisition of Twitter in late 2022, TweetDeck was rebranded as X Pro and integrated into Twitter’s subscription services. However, according to a company spokesperson, Meta’s Threads is offering its TweetDeck-like feature free of charge.
Threads was introduced by Meta in July as a response to Musk’s acquisition of Twitter, with Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg expressing hopes for the platform to reach a billion users eventually. Zuckerberg revealed in April that Threads boasts over 150 million monthly active users.
